Kapitel 8 - The road, Bastian Baker feat. Aliose
„Yeez! Okay, okay! I’m gonna call him.“
Hon log stort.
„Yeay!“
Nu var det väl knappast ingen idé att säga emot längre. Jag kollade omkring. Det kändes inte som om jag skulle få ut särskilt mycket av samtalet om jag ringde här, mitt på Oxfordstreet.
„Could we go to the park over there?“
Alyssa nickade.
„Sure.“
I sat in the sofa at starbucks, waiting for Louis to show up. We had planned to just take a coffee or two, and then spend our free day doing something fun. But now I had something else in my mind.
I looked down at the pink iPhone in my hands. Why should I always be so clumsy? I felt sorry for the girl I’d ran into. She must be missing her phone too.
„Just call her!“, I said to myself. „You want your phone back, don’t cha?“
„Who are you talking to, Liam?“
I hadn’t realized Louis had came into the café. I quickly let the phone fall down onto my lap. Then I turned my head to face my friend.
„Hey!“
He put his cup of hot chocolate on the table, and let himself drop on the armchair in front of me.
„So what’s up? You look a little confused. Nice shell by the way.“ He shot a glance towards my lap, where the pink iPhone was laying. He grinned.
„I’m fine.“
Louis nodded.
„Right.“
He leaned back and turned his head to look at something else. After maybe a thirty seconds of silence, I gave up.
„Okay, okay, Lou you got me!“
He smiled widely.
„I knew there was something. Tell me.“
I sighed.
„Whatever.“ I rolled my eyes. „I ran into girl just before you came, and then we somehow managed to switch phones. And now, yeah... I got her iPhone.“
I looked at Louis. His eyes were staring at me.
„So what are you waiting for? Call her!“
„I don’t know... It will just be embarassing?“
He sighed, and did a facepalm.
„Don’t be so freaking shy! Do you want your iPhone back or not?“
I nodded slowly.
„You’re right. I’m gonna call right now.“
I took up her phone, and unlocked it - lucky for me it had no password - , but stopped with my eyes on her background, a grey, fat cat. I couldn’t help but smile. Just when I wanted to push the green button that would bring me to the keypad, the phone started to vibrate.
I wanna be drunk when I wake up
On the right side of the wrong bed
And every excuse I made up
Tell you the truth I hate
I knew the song she’d picked as ringtone very well. It was „Drunk“ by Ed Sheeran. I glanced at the caller ID.
Alyssa.
I stiffened. I didn’t know what to do. Should I answer? Maybe the girl whos phone this was called from someone others phone? I really didn’t know what to do. I didn’t dare to answer. I suddenly felt how the table was shaken by Louis, who quickly had stood up.
„What are you waiting for? Answer your phone dude!“
„I don’t think so... It could be anyone. If she would call me, wouldn’t my number show up on the display?“ I looked at him, and added: „It’s not mine by the way.“
He leaned over his head to the side.
„Who called then?“
I looked down again, even if I surely knew the name. The phone had stopped ringing at that moment.
„Some Alyssa-girl.“
He grinned.
„Nice name. Maybe it’s one of her friends?“
I laughed at his typical Louis-insert.
„Maybe. But I think I prefer to be sure I’ll get this thing right.“
The phone started to ring again, and one time after that too. I let it ring out both of the times. Louis looked a little bit disappointed, but didn’t say anything against my behaviour. I waited another five minutes to see if Alyssa really’d given up. She seemed to.
„Finally.“
I decided to do what I had to before I changed my mind. I opened the keypad and tipped in my number, before placing the phone to my ear. I put a finger in front of my lips, tell Louis to be quiet. His smile was huge, and he looked very excited. I laughed as the signals went by.
After I got it to ten signals, and no one had answered, I was about to end the call. When suddenly a high, soft voice spoke:
„Hello?“
